The Ford Focus has become very popular, not just the new models but the older 1st generation and its facelift versions too.
The Ford Focus is available in 5 or 3 door hatchbacks, estates and even a saloon. It is available in petrol and diesel variations, some (aftermarket installed) LPG versions are also around. For me the Focus marks the turning point for Ford – before the Focus, Ford were producing boring, dull and unreliable cars, remember the MK1 Mondeo?
The Focus appeals to multiple generations, grandparents, parents and children too. Its looks are neutral – not too “out there” but not too “conservative” either. The trim and spec levels also help attract the wider masses.
The ST, RS and Eco friendly versions ensure the petrol head as well as the earth lover is tailored for too. The Focus is a fun car to drive, “easy to drive” is what many pundits have called it over the years.
Being a Ford it is not very costly to maintain and the initial outlay is modest too. I have seen a used ford focus in Croydon for under £4,000, it is a 2003 1.6 Zetec model in a beautiful blue. Compared some of the competitors in its range the Focus offers true value for money and it looks and drives better too.
If buying the MK1 Focus be careful of electrical faults which can be spotted by erratic needle movements on the odometer, rev counter and fuel gauge. Sometimes these electrical faults can be down to an old battery nearing the end of its life, if not then it can be a major electrical issue – stay away from those!
